Volunteers with Marlinton Rescue Squad will soon be required to undergo random drug and alcohol testing. The members of the Squad established the policy ourselves in an effort to show our commitment to a drug free community.
As EMS workers we are placed in a position of trust on a daily basis. We felt that is it important for us to prove to our patients and their families that our volunteers are committed to a drug-free lifestyle. All EMS workers in West Virginia are currently required to have a criminal background check before being certified as an EMS provider. We wanted to take that one step farther and show that our volunteers are also drug and alcohol free.
Marlinton Rescue Squad has contracted with Joe Boggs & Associates to administer our substance abuse policy. The Charleston firm will randomly select members to be tested. Any volunteer who tests positive will be immediately terminated.
New applicants for membership with the Squad will also be required to submit a drug and alcohol test prior to being granted membership with the squad.
