MARLINTON, WV – Marlinton Fire & Rescue was toned at on January 22, 2010 at 11:17 a.m. for a dump truck accident with a person entrapped under the truck on Route 39 between Marlinton and Richwood. Fire and EMS units from Hillsboro Fire/Rescue were dispatched at 11:14 a.m. and requested units from Marlinton to assist with the extrication.
While en route units were advised that fire and EMS from Richwood were also responding. Shortly before Marlinton and Hillsboro units arrived on scene, Redi-Care Ambulance from Craigsville reported that the driver of the truck was dead on scene. Marlinton and Hillsboro units continued to the scene to assist with traffic control and extrication.
The driver was pronounced dead on scene by the Pocahontas County Medical Examiner. The accident investigation was conducted by WV State Police and WV Dept of Transportation Enforcement.
Units responding from Pocahontas County were: Hillsboro 304, 305, 303 and 321; from Marlinton Medic 116 and Pocahontas Memorial Medic 10 and Pocahontas County OES Director 920 and Sheriff unit 701. From Richwood were Rescue 19 and Redi-Care Ambulance. Marlinton units Engine 119 and Squad 118 were cancelled prior to arrived on scene.
